Laurilyn Hall and Billy Zion discuss the Design Phase. BUILDING TRUST BLOG WHY DESIGN Laurilyn Hall and Billy Zion discuss the Design Phase. Back to Blog 2022-11-22 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ymIBRwepqEw Can you start a custom renovation without doing any Design work? Laurilyn Hall and Billy Zion discuss how vital the Design Phase is in a custom renovation. Of course you can. Some say Design is unnecessary and suggest one skilled craftsman (or what we affectionately call Chuck & his Truck) can get the job done. Which, for the record, might actually be true, but it's a gamble... like jumping from an airplane without any certainty your backpack has a parachute. Best to verify before making the jump. Starting a custom renovation is a major decision requiring forethought and preparation. Design = Preparation. So, what does a well-crafted Design include? Renovating your whole home will require more Design time than a bathroom reno, but both have similar Design deliverables - a rendering, a detailed scope of work, and a completed list of selections (colors & fixtures). Of course, having a Builder involved makes the transition from Design to Build even smoother. In this episode of Ready, Set, Renovate! we have two guests well-acquainted with custom renovation Design. Billy Zion of Zion architects and Laurilyn Hall of Thrive Architectural Interiors sat down to discuss the benefits of a good Design. So, without further ado… Let’s get to it! - Open Contemporary Kitchen Lake Keowee - South Carolina - Daniel Builders
Walls throughout this renovation were removed allowing for the interior to be totally transformed to create a seamless, open floor plan between a stunning kitchen and great room with vaulted ceiling. OPEN CONTEMPORARY KITCHEN Lake Keowee 2020 Pinnacle Award Kitchen Multi Room This gorgeous lakeside remodel began with an intent to open up the compartmentalized floor plan taking full advantage of the impressive view, as well as to enhance the character of the home through unique architectural features and high-end finishes. The Daniel Builders design team and homeowner collaborated to concept an open layout, removing load bearing walls and creating a seamless flow between the entry, kitchen, dinette, and living area. Large sliding doors surrounded by new, custom windows and an arched transom maximize the lake view and modernize the aesthetic. These additions, along with large windows in the kitchen bring substantially more natural light into the home than existed before. The kitchen features approximately a hundred square feet of counter-to-ceiling glass tile backsplash and a 5’x9’ seamless island countertop of Skara Brae Polished Cambria. The living area boasts a custom fireplace with painted wainscoting and a Cambria surround. Overhead the vaulted ceiling is detailed with Timber Truss Beams that draw the eye to appreciate this focal point in the space. Nine hundred square feet of LVP flooring unifies the different spaces as a whole and the custom rail and wrought iron baluster design provides a beautiful anchor between the different living areas. No detail was too small nor left untouched in fulfilling our client’s vision for this lakeside retreat. Previous Next Back to Projects Gallery
- Traditional ADA Bathroom Verdae - South Carolina - Daniel Builders
ADA shower in master bathroom was part of an extensive renovation which aging in place as a key consideration for this project that garnered a Bridge Award for the highest degree of difficulty. TRADITIONAL ADA BATHROOM Verdae 2022 Bridge Award Bathroom One of the primary goals driving this renovation was opening the floor plan to enhance the ability of the homeowners to age in place. With concerns for mobility in the future, the client requested an ADA roll-in shower and the removal of the water closet in favor of a more open plan. Opening walls and expanding the shower also helped meet a secondary goal to increase the natural light in what was originally a fairly dark space. An early idea was to add or enlarge windows, but this brought some challenges including the exterior look of the home, privacy, and use of the outdoor space. Instead, fewer walls, the addition of glass, and the combination of gorgeous, reflective marble with a delicate Schumacher wall covering accomplished a bright and elegant space. Finally, the custom vanity features a built-in mirror on the linen tower. This feature, combined with the recessed drawer stack and breakfront counter top allows the homeowner a small niche where she can sit to use the vanity while still maintaining the needed storage space within the cabinets. The design team worked to address every functional detail to provide for the client’s needs while also capturing a classic interior style that blends seamlessly with the original design of this beautiful southern home. In the storm's aftermath, the Daniel Builders team supported old friends and forged new relationships. In this episode, we acknowledge the hardships caused by Helene, while also celebrating relationships forged by the storm. One of our old friends is Larry Gluck. He describes how Hurricane Helene impacted his home in the Cliffs at Keowee Vineyards. While a custom build is complex, a custom rebuild presents its own unique challenges. Larry details a few of these challenges in his story. As Daniel Builders sought vendors to assist with the custom finishes of the Gluck home, we forged a new relationship with Tidewater Lumber and Mouldings. In this episode, Louis Voorhees, General Manager, takes us on a tour of the Greer Tidewater facility and reflects on the partnership that resulted when Tidewater Lumber and Daniel Builders teamed up to restore the Gluck home. - BALLPARK COST - Building Trust Renovation Blog - South Carolina - Daniel Builders
Know these ballpark costs before speaking with a renovation contractor. BUILDING TRUST BLOG BALLPARK COST Know these ballpark costs before speaking with a renovation contractor. < Back Will Cord 2017-04-18 Understanding the cost of a custom renovation and the amount you should be prepared to spend. How much does a kitchen remodel cost? How much does a bathroom remodel cost? You know what’s fun? Brainstorming renovation ideas. It’s a blast. Both customer and contractor enjoy this dreaming phase, visualizing what “could be”. These pleasant conversations eventually lead to a big elephant in the room: COST. Discussing cost is not only necessary, but it should also happen early in the quoting process. Delaying a cost conversation makes "sticker shock" more likely, which neither contractor nor customer enjoy. A ballpark cost is a good place to start. So what are reasonable ballpark costs for common renovations? Here’s a short list compiled by Remodeling Magazine . *Important* These are AVERAGE COSTS for an area of the country known as the South Atlantic region. Each project in the list below links to a detailed project description and diagram. Once budget and ballpark cost align, creating an accurate quote is the next step. Utilizing Design-Build ensures quoting accuracy and scope clarity.
