- RENOVATION HAPPINESS - Building Trust Renovation Blog - South Carolina - Daniel Builders
Create a mood altering renovation with colors, space and pleasant smells. BUILDING TRUST BLOG RENOVATION HAPPINESS Create a mood altering renovation with colors, space and pleasant smells. Back to Blog 2018-09-27 Renovated spaces that incorporate colors, nature, space and pleasant smells will have a positive impact on your mood. "How does that make you feel?" Asking this age-old psychiatric question is highly recommended as you consider ways to improve the space where you live. A few days ago, I came across these 7 décor characteristics that influence your emotions and wanted to share them with you. The Color of Your World In the early 1800s, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe proposed colors affect the human psyche in his book Theory of Colours . Although his interpretation of certain colors was not entirely accurate, his theory was confirmed through recent studies and experiments. Today, we know colors affect us on a psychological level. Here are some color correlations: Red - passion, warmth, intimacy Orange - energy, innovation Yellow - joy, creativity Green - relaxation, naturally soothing Blue - calming, refreshing Purple - luxury, sophistication Gray - relaxation, peacefulness Brown - relaxation, calmness, connection to nature Black - boldness, power White - cleanliness, purity, sterility Bringing Nature Indoors While there's nothing wrong with filling your home with modern conveniences, too much may leave the living space feeling sterile or impersonal. Such environments do little to reduce stress and feelings of anxiety. Psychologists recommend adding elements of nature to your environment to counteract a space that feels sterile. Bringing potted plants inside, keeping a bouquet of flowers on a table, and hanging paintings of outdoor scenes will help create a relaxed and welcoming environment. Clear the Clutter Clearing clutter is one of the most basic things you can do to improve a room’s vibe. We tend to let things pile up here and there. These eyesores affect our stress levels. You may not consciously be aware of it, but seeing clutter can cause you to tense up and feel anxious. Adding a cabinet space enhances the atmosphere and provide a place for storing papers, books, and other items. Increase Natural Sunlight The amount of natural light a room receives will also affect your mental state. Depending on how a home is situated, some rooms receive very little sunlight. Adding skylights can help, but there are also cheaper options. Try adding mirrors to the room, placing them at angles to capture the sun's rays. A mirror’s reflection also helps make a room look bigger. Add the Illusion of Space Rooms that are smaller and more confining can either be cozy or suffocating. If the room makes you feel claustrophobic, try to create more room. As previously mentioned, mirrors can add dimension to the room. Additionally, look for ways to leave the center of the room empty. Instead of a coffee table, add an extra end table. You can also add more artwork to draw the eye away from the size of the room. Take Advantage of Aromatherapy Adding scented candles is a simple, quick way to enhance a room's aroma. Alternatively, you might prefer investing in an essential oil diffuser. Whichever method you choose, look for scents that lead to a positive and relaxed emotional state. Lavender, cinnamon, and jasmine are just a few to consider. Invest in New Furniture If you're a crafty person, you might build your own tables or a chair from reclaimed wood. This brings your personal style to a room and promotes a more welcoming vibe. If your sofa and chairs don't help you feel relaxed, consider selling them and buying something a little different. Your home should be a place to relax and unwind, so keep that in mind, when shopping for new furniture. Paying closer attention to how your room makes you feel enables you to create a happier environment. People often tend to create a room by adding components that they like without giving thought to how those items will affect the overall environment. Visualizing possibilities of a living space will help you create something that feels good and welcomes guests openly. Feeling the need for a major renovation? - SERVING GREENVILLE SC - Building Trust Renovation Blog - South Carolina - Daniel Builders
Daniel Builders proudly serves Greenville, South Carolina. Here are a few reasons to remodel older homes in Greenville, South Carolina. BUILDING TRUST BLOG SERVING GREENVILLE SC Here are a few reasons to remodel older homes in Greenville, South Carolina. Back to Blog 2023-10-09 Daniel Builders proudly serves Greenville, South Carolina. Many homes in Greenville, SC are being remodeled, that’s because of the number of homes, especially around downtown Greenville that have reached the stage where they are ready to be remodeled. When does a home reach this point and become ready or “ripe” for a custom home remodel. No exact date exists. Some homes age gracefully, others start falling apart while still under construction. Most custom Home remodeling is more about upgrading than repairing. Like a refurbished iPhone, a well remodeled home will be in good working order for many years to come. Here are a few reasons to remodel older homes in Greenville, South Carolina: Home is Deteriorating Leaks, rot, termite damage, or damage from destructive forces of nature need to be addressed or they will only get worse. Should damage be addressed later than sooner, a major remodel will likely be necessary. You never truly know how bad or extensive the damage is until you start tearing into walls. What else will a look “behind the walls” reveal? More rot? Sketchy framing? Or even dead rodents (we’ve seen them before)? After a remodeling project is underway, finding more issues trigger what’s referred to as a change order. Again, these issues are always best to fix before they get more costly. You Found Your Forever Home How long do you plan to live in your home? If you’re thinking less than 5 more years a major remodel doesn’t make sense. Recouping money you invest in a custom remodel is less likely should you sell your home soon (less than 5 years as a minimum). Although when you plan on staying for a long while or make it your “forever home” then an expensive remodel makes more sense. Knowing a good realtor is helpful when projecting the worth of your home after a major remodel. More Space is Needed A growing family and recently acquired stuff have something in common. They both require space. How will you find more space? Options are limited. Storage units for the stuff sometimes makes sense, but not for putting family members in. Adding space to your home could be the right option. More Functional Space is Needed More space doesn’t always equate to more functional space. Functional spaces are rooms or areas designed with a specific purpose in mind, such as a home office, a kitchen, or a living room. When creating functional spaces everything is designed with the purpose of the room in mind. For example, designing a mudroom when need to have the function of taking off dirty clothes, washing hands, washing and folding clothes in mind. You Love Your Home’s Location Just about everything within a home can be designed the way you want it. Changing where the home is located is exponentially more difficult. There are times when a homeowner loves there location so much they stay put even while not being crazy about the house. You Know a Guy Not everyone who claims to possess high end remodeling abilities, can. Let’s face it remodeling projects can get highly complex, not to mention your home is at risk when you allow someone to start doing stuff they don’t know how to do. Always best to ensure you have a qualified remodeling contractor before starting a remodel. Once you do, then you have a fantastic reason to remodel. Read more on how to find and choose a reliable renovation contractor for your home remodel here . You Can Vacate or Tolerate Living Through A Home Remodel Your patience will likely be tried when you live in a home that “under construction”. Some mind more than others. If you possess a high degree of flexibility with this type of scenario then great, full steam ahead with your remodel. If having carpenters and construction debris in your home for months makes you high agitated to think about then you may want to reconsider your remodeling plans. The best scenario is always being able to vacate the home until the remodel is complete. Unfortunately, not everyone has this option. All Decision Makers Are Unified Starting a remodel without having consensus among married couples is a recipe for misery. Sorting out the differences is an awkward place for a remodel contractor. Don’t rely on them for marriage counseling. Family tension, frustration, and strife can sabotage a home remodel quicker than anything. It’s best to have everyone in agreement (fully in agreement) before considering a start date. You Are Financially Prepared Major custom remodels aren’t cheap and trying to “get a bargain” is a lost cause. Gambling with your home in this way is a bad idea. Poor craftsmanship and rework cost a lot! As a rule trying to find shortcuts to the home of your dreams is a bad idea. Major Home remodeling doesn’t happen overnight, or in a week, or even a few weeks. It’s a large investment in terms of money and time, lasting months. To summarize remodeling in Greenville, South Carolina is a big decision. Making the right decision happens when you consider the following questions: Is your home in need of major repair? How long do you plan to live in the home? Do you need more space? Do you love your home’s location, but not crazy about your home’s design and layout? Do you know a competent remodeling contractor or general contractor? Are you ok living in a home under construction? Or can you vacate your home? - SUNROOM SEASON - Building Trust Renovation Blog - South Carolina - Daniel Builders
Better weather is rapidly approaching, are you prepared to enjoy it? Have you considered adding a sunroom or an all season room to your home? BUILDING TRUST BLOG SUNROOM SEASON Here are five ways for your home to take in more of the great outdoors. Back to Blog 2024-04-04 Better weather is rapidly approaching, are you prepared to enjoy it? Have you considered adding a sunroom or an all season room to your home? A sunroom is a perfect complement to your patio installation. What options do you have when it comes to remodeling or adding space conducive to soaking up the sun? Daniel Builders is your trusted sunroom builder and here are 5 different sunrooms we can provide. Sunroom Bump Out Addition A bump out is an addition that expands the square footage of an existing room, as opposed to constructing a whole new room. This makes it significantly smaller and less expensive than a full-scale addition. First-floor main living spaces, such as living rooms and dining areas on the rear of the home, are candidates for bump out additions. Enclosed Porch In general, this is the least expensive way to add a sunroom, as it’s possible to leverage the infrastructure of your existing porch. Unfortunately, this option doesn’t work for every porch. You’ll need to check with a reputable builder to ensure the foundation can support the enclosed structure. Insulation, drywall, plumbing, electrical, and HVAC (though it’s possible to use existing) are also necessary considerations when transforming a porch into a sunroom. Porch Addition An addition is a two-phase, long-term approach. A full-scale addition requires a larger financial investment, as it is likely to require a six-figure budget. Longer build time is also a factor to consider, as this option involves creating a completely new structure. The first phase of that process is getting architectural plans. A robust Design phase clarifies needs prior to breaking ground on a porch addition. At Daniel Builders, design phase deliverables include renderings, a detailed scope of work, a list of selections, and a fixed price. After the design is approved, the project moves into the build phase. Conservatory A conservatory is distinct from a sunroom. Originating in 15th century England, conservatories are characterized by walls and ceilings made of 50-75% glass. Their main function is to nurture indoor plants, and they are also commonly referred to as greenhouses. As a result of the growing popularity of gardening, the construction of conservatories has increased. Trusted design-build contractors, like Daniel Builders, can construct a custom conservatory and create the architectural design. Detached Sunroom The options here are endless and cross over into the Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) category. Daniel Builders is your trusted ADU builder. And can design and build a variety of detached ADUs such as pool houses, tiny houses, cottages, and other structures utilized as secondary dwelling options to the main residence. In the case of a detached sunroom, the concept is generally the same. Although they’re not built with all the features of a home, these sunrooms allow families to enjoy the outdoors from the comfort of a detached, conditioned space. For residents of Upstate SC (Seneca, Anderson, Greenville), Daniel Builders will seamlessly match your home's existing architecture to create a detached space your family will love! Are you looking for a sunroom contractor or an ADU contractor or do you have an idea for a custom sunroom? - GOOD NEWS - Building Trust Renovation Blog - South Carolina - Daniel Builders
Good news found by the renovation contractor Daniel Builders. BUILDING TRUST BLOG GOOD NEWS Good news found by the renovation contractor Daniel Builders. Back to Blog 2019-02-11 Good news found by the renovation contractor Daniel Builders. Disclaimer: What you're about to read has nothing to do with renovations. Still, if an award was given for our “Most Significant” blog post, this one would win by far. I’m sure you've our society has become increasingly panic-stricken. The news networks rarely tell us anything calming or good, and social media thrives on deception. All this bad news begs the question: Is good news out there? The answer is yes. Good still happens in our American culture. And it's worth finding. You need to know where to look though, or face being swept away by a tidal wave of negativity. So where is the good news? At Daniel Builders we recognize truly good news starts with God. He is doing good right now in our community, even as much of it goes largely unrecognized. The few recognizing this goodness are often at “rock bottom”. They have exhausted just about every option, but one -The Haven of Rest. The Haven specializes in helping people at rock bottom, and they frequently see God demonstrate amazing goodness. Recently, I sat down with Stu Butler, executive director of the Haven of Rest in Anderson. What he said is worth sharing. Will: Who comes to the Haven of Rest for help? Stu: Men and women struggling with a life dominating problem. Let me read you our Mission statement. The Haven of Rest exists to see those with life dominating problems rescued, restored and released while experiencing the love of the Lord Jesus Christ as commanded in the Great Commission of Matt 28:18-20. Will: What does getting help look like for someone struggling with a live dominating problem? Stu: We don’t advertise. We don’t have to advertise. Most people end up here by word of mouth. We have five pillars. Food. Shelter. Clothing. Christian Love. Biblical Guidance. If a person’s stomach is inside out from hunger, they can’t really listen very well. Or if someone is physically exhausted and they just need to lay down a while we can meet that need. So, we start by meeting basic needs, but that’s not where we stop. Will: What motivates you? Stu: The love of Christ, what He has done for me and what I see Him doing in other people’s lives. We see God doing miracles here every day and that is not only motivational but inspirational as well. I am motivated to leave things better than I found them. That is something that my dad taught me and it has stuck with me all these years. He did that and his legacy still lives on even though he passed away two years ago at age 92. I want to follow in my Father’s footsteps – both my earthly father and my heavenly Father. I want to leave a legacy that is larger than me and will last longer than me. Will: Have you seen an increase or decrease in desperate, “rock bottom” people? Stu: Unfortunately, we have seen an increase. Material poverty has been around for a long time but we also see spiritual poverty and relational poverty. Technology has connected us but also disconnected us and that creates relational poverty. So, we are ministering to men and women dealing with that as well. Interestingly in our low-tech ministry centers our men and women are forced to talk and to relate to one another. That can be a slow process at first, but they can learn to relate to their fellow sojourners and that is a great thing. If they can learn to relate to and love their fellow man who they have seen it helps them to see God who they have not seen. Will: How will the Haven continue seeing God at work? Stu: We stand on the truth and the basics, as long as we do that we will grow and see God at work. As we are faithful to God, He is faithful to us and gives us fruit for our labors. This is a faith ministry and what we have found is that God honors faith because faith honors God. We are so thankful for the support of the community, support which we depend on because we do not receive government funding for our programs. May God grant us all an ability to recognize His good news. - INVEST IN TRUST - Building Trust Renovation Blog - South Carolina - Daniel Builders
Build trust in tangible ways. BUILDING TRUST BLOG INVEST IN TRUST Build trust in tangible ways. Back to Blog 2018-06-21 The forethought necessary to renovate and repair your home after storm damage has occurred. Here are 7 ways to approach storm damage to your home. Earlier this month we hosted approximately 60 guests at our first Lunch & Renovate event. For those unable to attend, our event was designed to build deeper relationships of trust. That should sound familiar because the tagline “Building Trust” is on our trucks and marketing material. This tagline has become somewhat of an obsession. We're passionate about establishing and protecting relationships of trust, which leads to some obvious questions. Why all the emphasis on trust? What Return on Investment (ROI) does trust offer? After all, why obsess about trust when actual results are more important? (Short answer: the best results require trust. I’ll elaborate.) Here’s 7 reasons why we obsess over building trust. Trust Enhances Clarity . Clear expectations are established and fulfilled when there’s trust. This prevents unproductive habits of speculation and guesswork. Trust Establishes Stability . "Surprises" can derail a project. A relationship of trust addresses small problems before they become big problems. The result is stability and decreased anxiety. Trust Enables Efficiency . Trustworthy people follow through on commitments. Less time is wasted “back tracking” to deal with incomplete work. Trust Expands Potential . People who interact and operate on a strong foundation of trust accomplish more together than individually. If you want to tap into one of the greatest resources on the planet (people) you’ll need trust. Trust Empowers Communication . Trusting someone means you ask and answer straightforward questions without feeling threatened. You can also listen wholeheartedly without doubts in your mind. Trust Ensures Protection . A trusting relationship is characterized by “looking out” for the other person. That involves guarding against potential threats to their resources, reputation, or family. Trust Endures Setbacks . Encountering problems is a great litmus test for trust. When bad things happen true relationships of trust are revealed, and real help can be provided. Bottom line: Trust Enriches Relationships. We realize building trust requires time, patience, and effort - all of which we gladly give to establish relationships. We also realize broken trust is hard to earn back. This is why we quickly acknowledge mistakes and make every effort to correct them. We are committed to seek, protect, and ultimately build trust. In case you haven't noticed, your trust is quite valuable to us! Are you contemplating a major home renovation? Back to Blog 2022-08-10 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U1x_78kP1I0 Daniel Builders personnel discuss the Guide Design Build process in podcast format. You've likely heard of a "Design-Build" contractor. Design-Build is a time-tested process for getting architect, designer, and builder on the same page. If done correctly, the process creates a cohesive, cost effective and efficient renovation experience. At Daniel Builders we've enhanced the Design-Build process by adding Project Guides to assist clients from the very beginning. We call our process "Guide-Design-Build". A Project Guide educates and advises each client before they move their project into Design. Recently, we recorded a podcast about the Guide-Design portion of our process. We invite you listen here or watch (& Subscribe) here on our YouTube channel . You'll learn how we take beautiful renovation ideas and translate them into a buildable Design. You’ll also hear our Project Guide Director, Daniel Jachens, share his passion for providing sound renovation guidance and eliminating manipulative sales tactics, our Design Director, Andy DeLeonardis, discuss the value of a well-crafted Design package and the gifted Interior Designer, Cindy Jacques, discussing how her business Buttercup Designs can make the whole process even more delightful. We invite you to listen and subscribe to our podcast “Ready, Set, Renovate!” but if reading is more your thing, here are 7 reasons why Project Guides make the renovation process better. Guidance > Hard Selling - There may be someone out there who loves being coerced by an aggressive salesperson, but don't. People benefit more from useful information so they can make an informed decision. This is what our Project Guides provide. Trust > Distrust - Yes, that’s obvious but can’t be overstated. It’s easy to forget the importance of Trust until you find yourself working with someone who has little concern for your best interest. Then suddenly you recall how important it is. Planning > Rash Decisions - A home-altering custom renovation is a big deal. Making rapid, uniformed decisions about this process would be a massive mistake. Project Guides provide good counsel to help you as you plan. Experience > Novelty - So many lessons are learned the “hard way” or after making a mistake because you just didn’t know better. Imagine how much grief could be avoided if people who knew better were informing those who didn’t. Our Project Guides use a wealth of knowledge gleaned from years of Daniel Builders experience so clients can avoid the hard way. Confidence > Hopium - People who have done it before are confident they can do it again. People who are confident with no prior experience are just wishful. A major custom renovation is nerve racking enough. A proven renovation contractor provides added confidence as you move forward with your renovation. Warning > Regret - Not every renovation idea is a good idea. There are times when a Project Guide will advise against moving forward with a renovation. For example, a major custom renovation is a bad idea for the client who plans to move in a few years. A well placed warning can ensure you reach your renovation destination without regret. Relationship > Isolation - We’re in this for the long haul. We encourage clients to share questions and concerns, as opposed to letting them speculate in isolation. From the outset our team is dedicated to being approachable and relational far beyond the completion of their project. Are you contemplating a major home renovation? - RENOVATION EXPECTATIONS - Building Trust Renovation Blog - South Carolina - Daniel Builders
Establish clear expectations with a fixed cost. BUILDING TRUST BLOG RENOVATION EXPECTATIONS Establish clear expectations with a fixed cost. Back to Blog 2017-11-14 Since 2007 we’ve completed literally hundreds of renovations. Over that time, we’ve identified the single most important element to a successful renovation is establishing trust. Clear Expectations - As you can imagine guesswork and unwanted surprises create big problems during a renovation. To be clear (notice how I’m clarifying expectations here) no process eliminates every surprise. Still, you can and should always establish clear expectations in regards to price, timeline, scope, communication, and warranty before moving into construction. Here are five reasons to hire a contractor committed to clarifying expectations: Price is Firm - A renovation with a fluctuating price can feel like a scary roller coaster. Clear price expectations require legwork from your contractor, and those willing to do this legwork are typically worth your business. Agreeing to a fixed price is the best way to avoid being trapped in a renovation with unknown, or escalating expenses. Time is Honored - Waiting is hard enough, but when you’re uncertain about how long, or even why, it can be excruciating. Good contractors outline schedules and communicate delays so you can avoid this anxiety. Don’t misunderstand. Waiting will be required. Renovations don’t happen as fast as you see on HGTV. However, clear time expectations from the start makes your wait much easier. Value is Defined - Not all contractors are created equal. Some leave you wondering, “Why did I pay so much (or so little) for my renovation?” Answer: Value was never established or documented. In other words, be certain your contractor knows what level of quality and service you expect before any agreement is reached. Trust is Built - Trust is so important because few things in life go exactly as planned. A good contractor communicates and addresses his mistakes when they happen. Problems only grow larger when ignored. Asking for references and reading reviews help shape an accurate expectation of a contractor’s credibility. Service is Ongoing - Unfortunately, some problems become evident after a project is complete. This is especially difficult when a contractor is unwilling to return. Understanding the warranty must happen before a project ever starts. Ask your contractor how warranty related issues are handled. Again, check his track record by reading reviews and contacting references. Knowing your contractor stands behind his work brings valuable peace of mind. Eventually you will know if you and your contractor share the same expectations regarding price, time to complete, scope of work, communication, and warranty. The key is clarifying these expectations before it's too late. Are you contemplating a major home renovation?
