We’ve been grateful to partner with Fusion Audio + Video during a recent remodel in Simpsonville, SC. Last week, we took our team on a tour of their downtown Greenville showroom. In honor of National Smart Home Day, we wanted to highlight some of their capabilities! BUILDING TRUST BLOG SMART HOME SOLUTIONS A recent collaboration introduced us to these tech solutions from Fusion Audio + Video! < Back Will Cord 2024-11-03 We’ve been grateful to partner with Fusion Audio + Video during a recent remodel in Simpsonville, SC. Last week, we took our team on a tour of their downtown Greenville showroom. In honor of National Smart Home Day, we wanted to highlight some of their capabilities! Theater Rooms The choice between a projector and TV is largely dependent upon the amount of ambient light in the room. In 2024, a quality projector varies in price from $1,295-$60K, a 120 inch TV screen from $4K-$130K, and a 98 inch TV from $6K - $7K. The difference is driven by whether you are doing a projector and screen or a television. Picture quality, brightness, indoor vs outdoor, and motion handling also drive the wide variance in cost. Movie screens are available in varying sizes and aspect ratios based on the intended end use. Fusion has a 3D design service that helps clients visualize the room using VR goggles prior to build. Communication between the client, AV team, and builder is imperative during theater room builds. Floating gasket floors, decoupled walls, and decoupled ceilings can help achieve better sound isolation. Decorative pilasters, recesses, and risers can camouflage acoustic panels and wiring, but planning needs to be done upfront. Sports Simulator How it works: It’s similar to a video game with two tracks built into the subfloor. The tracks read the speed, trajectory, and spin of the ball as it passes them and travels toward the screen. Listening Rooms A listening room contains speakers, amplifiers, and custom acoustic panels to reduce the echo and increase sound clarity. Acoustic wall treatments can be color-matched to any paint color. If you want your room to sound like Abbey Road Studios, Fusion can help! TV Add-Ons Custom casings can conceal sound bars. A custom frame can camouflage the TV as a piece of artwork. Remotes can be programmed to lower the TV to eye level or swivel to the left or right. TVs can also be weatherized for outdoor living areas. Lutron Lighting Control & Ketra Fixtures How it works: a single hot wire provides power to different zones of light. A low-voltage control wire communicates commands to individual fixtures within each zone. Each zone can be customized to control multiple lights with a single multi-button dimmer. This system is a great way to consolidate the number of light switches in a room, which is especially helpful when converting a traditional floor plan to an open-concept layout with fewer walls. Retrofit kits are available for remodels and renovations. Lighting can be automated to dim when a movie begins to play in your theater room. It can also be automated to track daylight based on your geographic location and turn off and on accordingly. You can also control the color temperature, which is great for lighting artwork. Under-counter lighting and under-toe kick lighting are also available. V oice Control How it works: Josh.ai is a completely closed, privatized system that was originally designed for executives in Silicon valley who valued privacy. It understands multiple commands simultaneously, which Alexa, Google, and Siri cannot do. Ex: Josh obeys when you say, “Hey Josh, watch ESPN, open the shades, dim the lights to 70%, and set the temperature to 68 degrees.” You can also program multiple actions (or scenes) to occur via a short sentence. “Hey Josh Goodnight” can turn off the lights, turn off the TV, close the shades, and turn on the security system. Josh operates through wireless wall sensors. Since it operates through wifi, it can be retrofitted for remodels and renovations. If you don’t want it to listen in a particular room, activate the mute switch on the sensor. If you wish to operate Josh discreetly during a party or gathering, you can use the app or text from your phone. If the name Josh doesn’t work for your family, there are several other names to choose from. These are just a few of the many exciting smart home options available in 2024! Pro tip: If you want to implement smart home technology, budget for it at the beginning of your renovation project. Demo must planned in tandem with the smart tech. Smart tech is often the last consideration during a renovation project, and you don’t want to get to the end of your project, discover an amazing smart home feature, and have to rip out walls again to implement it! • RENOVATION VS REMODEL - Building Trust Renovation Blog - South Carolina - Daniel Builders

Home improvements can breathe new life into your living space. New projects enhance your home's functionality, appearance, and value. When you think about making changes to your home, you may think of renovate or remodel. These terms are often used interchangeably but they refer to two types of projects with distinct goals and scopes. BUILDING TRUST BLOG RENOVATION VS REMODEL The differences between a home renovation and a home remodel. < Back Will Cord 2023-07-28 Home improvements can breathe new life into your living space. New projects enhance your home's functionality, appearance, and value. When you think about making changes to your home, you may think of renovate or remodel. These terms are often used interchangeably but they refer to two types of projects with distinct goals and scopes. Today, we will explain the differences between a home renovation and a home remodel. This will help you understand which option will work best for your needs. Before we explore the differences, let's define both renovate and remodel and explore the differences of renovation vs restoration. Renovation is when we update your space without making large-scale changes to your home. It might involve improvements to existing features, fixtures, and finishes in your home. The goal is to enhance your home's appearance, functionality, or both. Common renovations include new paint or flooring, an upgrade to appliances, or adding new fixtures. Remodeling, on the other hand, involves changing the structure, layout, or purpose of your space. Remodeling may include big changes to your existing structure. You might be adding or tearing down walls, rearranging rooms, or even increasing your square footage. The purpose of a remodel is to transform the space to suit your family better or to accommodate new needs. When deciding between a home renovation and a house remodel, several factors should be considered: Remodeling and renovation cost - Renovations generally tend to be more cost-effective compared to full-scale remodels. Renovations are more cosmetic updates and minor repairs, which are less expensive than bigger changes. Remodels often require architectural planning, permits, and construction work, resulting in higher costs. Scope and Timeframe - Renovations tend to be smaller in scale, so they can be finished faster than a remodel. Since renovations focus on updating things already there, they involve less demo and construction. This will make your project wrap up faster. Remodels often involve major construction work, making the project take longer. Goals and Objectives - When deciding between a renovation and a remodel, think about your goals. Renovations are perfect to update the look of your space or to upgrade certain features without changing your current home. Remodels are better when you want to create a more functional or even more personalized space. Or if you are looking to address specific needs such as expanding a kitchen or adding a bathroom. Structural Considerations - If your home has structural issues or outdated layouts that don't meet your needs, a remodel may be the best option. Remodeling changes the floor plan and structural modifications to accommodate your perfect place. Since renovations focus on improving existing elements, they may not address structural problems. Restoration Renovations and remodels should not be confused with restoration. Restoration is returning a home to its original or historically accurate state. Restoration projects are common for historic buildings or properties with architectural significance. The goal here is to maintain the cultural value and authenticity of the home. This may involve using traditional construction techniques and materials as much as possible. Remodel vs Rebuild We should also note that remodeling is not the same thing as rebuilding. Rebuilding involves demolishing a significant part or even the entire existing structure. A new building is then constructed in its place. A rebuild starts from the ground up. You might need a rebuild if 1) the existing building is severely damaged 2) if it is structurally unsound, or 3) if it is outdated beyond a workable repair. A rebuild offers a completely fresh start. It also allows you to design and build a property that better suits the needs of you and your family. Remodel vs New Construction You may be wondering if renovation or remodeling is worth the effort compared to building a new home. New construction does have advantages as far as customizing and using modern technology and materials. Your preferences, budget, timeline, and the condition of your current home will impact your decision to choose between remodeling, renovation, or new construction. Evaluating these differences can help you make an informed decision that best suits your needs and goals. Remodeling or renovating an existing property offers several benefits compared to new construction. Here are some of the key advantages: Cost-Effectiveness - Generally, remodeling or renovating an existing property is more cost-effective than new construction. With remodeling, you can reuse some of the existing materials and infrastructure. This reduces the need for new building materials and the associated costs. Faster Completion - Remodeling projects typically have shorter timelines compared to new construction. Since the basic structure is already in place, the project moves faster, which allows you to enjoy the updated space sooner. Preserving Character - Many older properties have a unique character and charm. Those things can be preserved and enhanced through thoughtful renovation. Renovating allows you to keep the historical or sentimental value of the property while making it more functional. Minimal Disruption - Remodeling a property often causes less disruption compared to new construction. The surrounding neighborhood and environment are more affected by site work and new construction. Environmental Impact - Remodeling or renovating an existing property can be better for the environment than new construction. It reduces the demand for new building materials and minimizes construction waste. Location Benefits - Older properties are often situated in established neighborhoods. This means existing infrastructure, amenities, and services. Renovating or remodeling an existing property takes advantage of these benefits and updates the space to meet your needs. In the end, deciding if a home renovation or a remodel is right for you will depend on your goals, budget, and the scope of the changes you want. Renovations are the way to go if you are updating existing spaces or making cosmetic improvements. Remodels are better suited if you are looking for major layout changes or additions. It is important to weigh the needs of your home and your family. Consult with professionals to transform your home into the space of your dreams. Here are 5 renovations for soaking up more of the great outdoors. Patio Doorways & Windows - Open your home to a better view, more natural light, and pleasant outside temps by installing large patio folding doors. And when no thermostat is required, welcome those glorious temps inside with folding windows. Porches and Decks - They make going outside easy. And in case you’re wondering, porches are covered, and decks are uncovered. A porch or deck renovation will add more space, aesthetic appeal, and value to a home. Gazebos or Pergolas - Relatively easy and inexpensive to build, these structures also add value to your home. They provide a designated space for outdoor relaxing. Pergolas offer more light with open rafters while gazebos have a covered roof for more shade. Hardscapes - Two words: Low Maintenance. Unlike grass, these hard surfaces won’t grow weeds or require water. Instead, this renovation enhances the visual appeal of your landscape, while providing more space for outdoor entertaining. • SHK RENOVATION CLASS - Building Trust Renovation Blog - South Carolina - Daniel Builders

Renovate the easy way or by enrolling in a SHK class. BUILDING TRUST BLOG SHK RENOVATION CLASS Renovate the easy way or by enrolling in a SHK class. < Back Will Cord 2018-11-12 Renovation lessons learned the hard way aren't necessary for anyone to go through. There are plenty of renovation horror stories to learn from. I’m taking a risk here, but it’s worth taking. This blog is meant to warn you. Stay away from the SHK renovation process, and if you've already started, RUN! Never subject yourself to that kind of experience. Customers from the SHK tell us (and quite frequently) how much they regret trying to renovate their home that way. Every single customer of the SHK acknowledges it was not worth it. Full disclosure, the SHK is not some up and coming competitor. Instead, it’s a very costly experience better known as the School of Hard Knocks. Graduates of this “school” come to Daniel Builders after learning valuable renovation lessons the hard way. They all say the same thing, “I had no idea how much time, money and hardship my renovation would cost.” Ironically, the school appeals most to those seeking to save time, money, and hardships. Attending the SHK isn’t necessary. In fact, it’s the only school that truly pays to skip. So how does one avoid learning the lessons the hard way? Short answer: Identify SHK renovators before it’s too late. *Note: A 2015 Houzz showed the top 3 renovation challenges were: Finding the right service provider. Finding the right products and materials. Staying on budget. Really all 3 get resolved by choosing the right service provider.) The SHK renovator typically does minimal upfront legwork prior to starting a project. Time is money, and here’s a story line illustrating how both are easily lost in large quantities during a renovation. See if it sounds familiar. Homeowner seeks contractor for a major renovation project. Homeowner finds contractor A online and contacts him based on multiple online reviews from past customers who speak highly about Contractor A’s ability to provide an excellent renovation experience. Customer meets Contractor A and likes him even more. Customer feels very confident contactor A is competent and will deliver a high quality/low frustration renovation. Yet, homeowner decides to shop for a lower price. And he finds contractor B. Contractor B says he can do everything Contractor A, but at a price the homeowner wants to hear. So, the homeowner moves forward with contractor B. Fast forward 3 months. Homeowner’s expectations are shattered. Contractor B’s actual price escalates well beyond his estimates, while his level of quality and service decline. Homeowner fires Contractor B, loses money, and tries to figure out how to start over. Hopefully, these valuable lessons were truly learned and the homeowner never re-enrolls in the SHK, or the cycle is certain to repeat itself. No major renovation should start without first doing major legwork. Good contractors realize this and plan accordingly in 3 areas. Before anyone swings a hammer there should be real clarity on the scope of work and price. Here are 3 deliverables you need before beginning a major renovation. Design - creating your design with the help of a designer or architect ensures your finished project looks like what you want. Plus, this process uncovers new design options, as well as products the homeowner never knew existed. Detailed Scope - take time with your contractor to spell out the full and detailed scope of work, making all selections. Doing this legwork before starting shows you exactly what you’re paying for. Nobody wants to get less than what they expect. A detailed scope ensures you won’t. Fixed Cost - Cost surprises are rarely positive. When was the last time someone heard, “Your project is going to cost a few thousand less than we estimated?” Doesn’t happen. You no longer need to estimate when you have a clear design and detailed scope (including selections). You can have a fixed cost at the start. Are you contemplating a major home renovation?
