Lakefront home on Lake Hartwell features 4 gable roof lines that all meet at a central peak in the center of the living area and paralleled by interior ceiling planes with 3’’ tongue and grove across each ceiling plane, while also accounting for variance of existing structure. TRADITIONAL OPEN CONCEPT Lake Hartwell 2022 Bridge Award Kitchen Multi Room This lakefront home features 4 gable roof lines that all meet at a central peak in the center of the living area. Our goal was to create parallel lines with 3’’ tongue and grove across each ceiling plane, while also accounting for variance of existing structure. Shadow lines in the trim were utilized to create intentional reveals throughout the ceiling, and the ceiling was scribed to the existing fireplace. Back to Blog 2017-01-20 Have you found the home you want to grow old in? Modify it to accommodate you as you age. How much thought have you given to your future living arrangements? For one of our customers the future had a sudden and unexpected twist which left him with a big decision to make. After a life altering injury his living arrangements needed to change. Where would he live? Fortunately, moving wasn't necessary, but modifying his house was. Daniel Builders designed and renovated a living environment to fit his level of physical ability. Renovations included widening doorways, replacing flooring with hard surface types, designing, and installing a curbless shower with grab bars, installing a wheelchair lift, and creating step-less entrances. At some point all of us need to evaluate our living arrangements due to age or injury. Assisted living facilities offer to meet long term physical needs when change becomes necessary. Problem is 1 in 5 Americans don't like the assisted living option, and prefer to age in their own homes. Universal Design (or UD) takes many forms , and ultimately addresses the desire to age in place . Universal Design creates accessible and accommodating living environments for those who otherwise would experience significant limitations living in their home. Elements of UD include maneuverability, ease of operation (specifically in the kitchen and bathroom), range of reach (ex. lowering countertops), and support (ex. grab bars). Due to our aging population, UD is rapidly becoming relevant for a growing number of people. New construction spec homes are even being designed based on UD principles. Back to Blog 2022-01-31 Trust is a common value and tagline for businesses everywhere. As a renovation contractor we're building trust on the basis of competence, honesty, communication, connection, and commitment. It can't be built with passivity or indifference. And even though TRUST may feel uncertain at the start, there's no reason that feeling should continue. Trustworthy behavior doesn't take long to become apparent. Enduring TRUST isn’t blind TRUST. Here are 5 key building blocks for Building Trust. Honesty - Nothing builds TRUST more rapidly than speaking in a straightforward and truthful manner. Even major personality differences won't sabotage a relationship when transparency and factual communication prevail. Communication - Being super articulate isn’t necessary to foster TRUST through communication. Consistent communication is necessary though, even to the point of being uncomfortably repetitive. Speaking is only a small part of communication equation. Listening well is a higher priority. Simply paying attention leads to identifying and addressing faulty expectations before they undermine TRUST. And it’s vital to follow-up important conversations in writing. Competence - Being excellent and proficient at something will build TRUST. In the Bible there’s a proverb that says, “A person’s gift makes room for him, And brings him before great people.” (Proverbs 18:16). In other words, doing something really well creates such a high level of TRUST in your ability that you can't keep it a secret. Connection - Humans are wired with emotions. Emotion should be understood, but never manipulated. Honoring a person’s emotion shows a level of respect that is memorable. As Maya Angelou said, “I've learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel." Commitment - All of these building blocks require repetition. At any moment trust can crumble if there’s no willingness to continue building. Someone once said TRUST is gained in drips but lost in buckets. In other words, the accumulation of TRUST is quickly lost by a single act of untrustworthiness. Back to Blog 2017-11-14 Since 2007 we’ve completed literally hundreds of renovations. Over that time, we’ve identified the single most important element to a successful renovation is establishing trust. Clear Expectations - As you can imagine guesswork and unwanted surprises create big problems during a renovation. To be clear (notice how I’m clarifying expectations here) no process eliminates every surprise. Still, you can and should always establish clear expectations in regards to price, timeline, scope, communication, and warranty before moving into construction. Here are five reasons to hire a contractor committed to clarifying expectations: Price is Firm - A renovation with a fluctuating price can feel like a scary roller coaster. Clear price expectations require legwork from your contractor, and those willing to do this legwork are typically worth your business. Agreeing to a fixed price is the best way to avoid being trapped in a renovation with unknown, or escalating expenses. Time is Honored - Waiting is hard enough, but when you’re uncertain about how long, or even why, it can be excruciating. Good contractors outline schedules and communicate delays so you can avoid this anxiety. Don’t misunderstand. Waiting will be required. Renovations don’t happen as fast as you see on HGTV. However, clear time expectations from the start makes your wait much easier. Value is Defined - Not all contractors are created equal. Some leave you wondering, “Why did I pay so much (or so little) for my renovation?” Answer: Value was never established or documented. In other words, be certain your contractor knows what level of quality and service you expect before any agreement is reached. Trust is Built - Trust is so important because few things in life go exactly as planned. A good contractor communicates and addresses his mistakes when they happen. Problems only grow larger when ignored. Asking for references and reading reviews help shape an accurate expectation of a contractor’s credibility. Service is Ongoing - Unfortunately, some problems become evident after a project is complete. This is especially difficult when a contractor is unwilling to return. Understanding the warranty must happen before a project ever starts. Ask your contractor how warranty related issues are handled. Again, check his track record by reading reviews and contacting references. Knowing your contractor stands behind his work brings valuable peace of mind. Eventually you will know if you and your contractor share the same expectations regarding price, time to complete, scope of work, communication, and warranty. Walls were moved to accommodate a new bathroom layout and the kitchen was updated with painted cabinetry, new countertops and hardware, and backsplash. CONTEMPORARY INTERIOR The Cliffs Bathroom Kitchen Multi Room The scope of work for this idyllic mountain retreat included renovating the kitchen and remodeling the primary bedroom suite. Painted cabinetry, new countertops and hardware, and a new backsplash dramatically improved the kitchen area. As 2025 draws to a close, let's recap a few memories and milestones! BUILDING TRUST BLOG 2025 PORTFOLIO: PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE PAST YEAR As 2025 draws to a close, let's recap a few memories and milestones! Back to Blog 2026-01-02 What a year! We’re grateful for these 2025 memories and milestones! This year, we welcomed Aerika to our administrative staff and Brooks to our Design team. We welcomed AJ, Chad, Ethan, Jacob, Jeff, Junior, Jordan, and Whitney to the Build team. Andy joined our Commercial Division as Superintendent, and Sam assumed the role of Build Director. We’re so grateful for each person on our team and God’s continued blessing of company growth! The largest project we completed this year was a walk-out basement remodel and addition in Clemson. The basement mother-in-law suite features a kitchen, living room, dining room, fireplace, two bedrooms, bathroom, and walk-in closet. The addition includes two children’s rooms and a bathroom. Our second-largest project was a multi-room remodel in Anderson. We enclosed a portion of the porch to expand the kitchen, pantry, and dining area to better equip the home for entertaining. The remodel also included a staircase, laundry area, master bathroom, master closet, and guest bathrooms. To learn more about this project, check out the “Home for the Holidays” tour and client interview on our blog! Other projects completed in 2025 include additions, bathrooms, and kitchens. This two-story screened porch addition in Anderson includes a gorgeous tongue-and-groove pine ceiling, a slanted wall to capture the backyard view, a storage area for lawn maintenance equipment, and a hallway that connects the outdoor space to the main house. This kitchen in Simpsonville features quartz countertops, maple full-access cabinets, appliance garages, and a custom wine rack to keep everything beautifully organized: This master bathroom in Belton features a freestanding tub, a curbless shower, LED mirrors to prevent fogging, and statement tile. For a client in Anderson, we converted unused attic space into a guest bathroom and installed a luxurious steam shower in the master bathroom. For more information about steam showers, check out the “April Showers” episode on our blog! Our commercial division continued to expand through office upfits in Anderson and Greenville. We partnered with Zion Architects to restore the historic Pelzer Community Center, a project that will continue in 2026. Two years ago they were living in Bakersfield, CA. Amber convinced Ricardo that farm livin' is the life for them. So they loaded up the fifth wheel and embarked on some massive road trips. Texas, Tennessee, Florida, and South Carolina were explored in search of acreage to live out their agrarian vision. They eventually landed on plot of land in Pendleton, South Carolina. It's an intriguing and increasingly common story. People from all over the country want to live in South Carolina. Ricardo explains the appeal , and what they learned since arriving.
