Bob Cord Cofounder Bob Cord began his career in engineering and management after graduating from Georgia Tech in 1975. While working for Factory Mutual Engineering, Owens Corning, and BASF over the next 32 years, he developed experience in design, production management, process control, technical management, marketing, customer support, and R&D. Wanting to develop a local business from the ground up, he left the corporate world to partner with Daniel Jachens, his son-in-law, to start Daniel Builders LLC. SEE COMPLETE DETAILS Daniel Jachens Cofounder Daniel Jachens began developing his construction skills at age fourteen. He worked for a licensed builder for three years through an apprenticeship program. He continued working with the same builder, including primary maintenance responsibilities for a Christian school and camp, thus gaining a broad range of construction experience. Daniel started Dan’s Handyman Service in 2001 and acquired his residential builder’s license in 2007. Being in business for over 20 years, Daniel has a comprehensive understanding of all aspects of construction. SEE COMPLETE DETAILS Daniel Jachens Bob Cord Andy DeLeonardis David Bass Chief Operating Officer David has over two decades of construction experience. He joined Daniel Builders in June 2008. He has served the company in various capacities throughout the years as Build Team member, Build Director, and now as Chief Operating Officer. Professionally, he is passionate about quality craftsmanship, customer satisfaction, and mentoring. Outside of work, he dedicates his time to his family, church, and community. Anita Rhoads Chief Financial Officer Anita has lived in Anderson, South Carolina for over 20 years. She started at Daniel Builders in April 2016 and came with a strong background in financial management, primarily in the construction industry. Her experience includes developing management processes for several start-up businesses, as well as managing financial responsibilities for an outpatient center. Will Cord Chief Marketing Officer Will's role is a hybrid of marketing, personnel recruitment, community engagement, and charitable projects coordination. Will has been with Daniel Builders for over a decade. Prior to that he was a patient advocate, assisting ER patients and their families. Will has a strong passion for the values and culture of Daniel Builders. Andy DeLeonardis Guide|Design Director Early in life, Andy learned a lot about construction from his father simply by working on projects around the house. He eventually went to work for a local flooring company and developed a knowledge of flooring strong enough to start and co-own a flooring business. Andy has over 15 years of experience in flooring installation, specializing in hardwood and tile flooring, custom tile showers, and tile backsplashes. Andy thrives on helping his team reach their full potential. Outside of work, Andy enjoys spending time with family, working on home projects, and playing disc golf and basketball. Sam Parkinson Build Director & Safety Manager Sam manages our Build Team of Project Managers, Carpenters, and Carpenter Assistants to ensure that projects run smoothly and efficiently. Sam worked with his father on rental properties as a child. For as long as he can remember, Sam built things with his hands. After he graduated from Anderson University, he began a woodworking business and soon transitioned into a full-time carpentry position. His passion for craftsmanship and creating beautiful environments continues to grow. He has an eye for intricate details and is quick to help others develop their carpentry skills. Sam resides with his wife and son in Anderson, South Carolina. Andrew Horne Direct Projects Director Andrew’s introduction to trade work began at the age of thirteen. He established a strong foundation to acquire a wide variety of skills, on both the residential and commercial level. Andrew credits some amazing mentors who coached him in skill competencies, work ethic, integrity, an eye for detail, and an awareness of excellence. In 2009, Andrew made a career change and moved to Greenville, where he began to work in the trades full time. He started and operated his own renovation and home repair business from 2010 to 2017, where he further honed his skills in construction. Realizing the challenges of the industry, Andrew left self-employment to work on a team. He is glad to have landed at Daniel Builders where he started as a Lead Carpenter. Andrew lives in Taylors, South Carolina with his wife and daughter, and their Labrador retriever. David Bass Anita Rhoads Sam Parkinson Will Cord Andrew Horne Patrick Rawlins Patrick Rawlins Project Guide Patrick's primary responsibility is helping new clients start the Design-Build renovation process. Patrick was born and raised in Greenville, South Carolina. He graduated from Clemson in 2014. His hobbies include outdoor activities, such as hunting and boating. Patrick’s interest in remodeling goes back to the summers he spent working in construction during his younger years. After graduating from Clemson, Patrick worked in insurance for three years. General contractors and trades were some of his biggest clients. He kept his construction skills sharp through helping his father with various projects. Patrick is fulfilling his long-time dream of renovating homes. Manny Figueroa Project Guide Manny grew up in the Northeast and came to Greenville for college. After graduating, he married his college sweetheart, and they decided to make Greenville, South Carolina their home. Manny started woodworking early in his marriage (over 20 years ago) when decided to make his wife a spice rack for Christmas. Woodworking quickly became his passion, and he started making all sorts of toys and furniture. As his family grew, they moved a few times and chose fixer-uppers to remodel. In 2020, he decided to pursue his passion for carpentry full-time. Manny was drawn to Daniel Builders because of the level of craftsmanship they provide. Manny Figueroa Vicki Jordan Vicki Jordan Design Administrator Though her background is in education and customer service, Vicki has held a keen interest in residential renovations for a long time. She thrives on organizing renovation ideas, whether perusing Pinterest or assisting the Design Team. In her role she formulates selection schedules, creates agreements, and provides valuable administrative support. Vicki is committed to the values of Daniel Builders and a true team player. Her work ethic and attitude contribute greatly to the positive renovation experience enjoyed by clients. Outside of work, Vicki enjoys relaxing on her back porch and spending time at Hilton Head Island. She and her husband love spending time with their grandson! Brooks Fuller Design Project Manager Brooks and her family recently moved to the Upstate from France. After working in education for the bulk of her career and earning a certificate in Project Management, she's excited to start a new chapter at Daniel Builders! She spends her free time building her faith, family, and collection of antiques! Brandon Hurtado Design Project Manager Brandon started working construction at age fourteen. He learned construction skills while helping a family friend rebuild his home after it burned down in a fire. He continued developing his skill in carpentry throughout his younger years until it became his career. Brandon and his wife, Hannah, moved to South Carolina from Washington State in December of 2020. They moved to Greenville with their cat in October 2021, and Brandon joined Daniel Builders that same month. When he’s not working, Brandon enjoys woodworking and exploring with his wife. Billy Zion Design Architect Billy is part of our Design team at Daniel Builders. He is a licensed architect and a resident of Anderson, South Carolina. He is a 2000 graduate of the Citadel and a 2004 graduate of Clemson University’s School of Architecture. He has been practicing architecture for over 15 years and has experience with almost every type of project - from small-scale residential renovations to large-scale commercial developments. Billy has always loved to draw, and he sees architecture as a true artistic expression. He also loves staying active with his four sons. Hiking, camping, swimming, biking, and running are some of his favorite activities. He and his wife, Caroline, are very active in their church community. Billy uses his craft to serve others and is excited to be a part of the residential growth in our region. Lorianne Taylor Designer Lorianne is originally from Anderson, SC and holds a degree in Interior Design from Anderson University. She enjoys using this background to serve clients by problem solving with various spatial layouts. Outside of work she enjoys spending time with her husband and their dog. They are actively involved at their church where they serve in student ministry. Deedra Franklin Architectural Staff Deedra is originally from Seneca, SC and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture from Clemson University. Her interest in architecture began in early childhood. She discovered her passion for residential design after gaining hands-on experience helping her parent’s design their home and enrolling in her first architecture drafting class in high school. She enjoys using her creative problem solving skills to create functional, inviting spaces tailored to each client's preferences and needs. Outside of work, you can find Deedra immersed in other creative pursuits like painting, crocheting, spending time with her dog and 3 cats, or tending to her plants. Billy Zion Brandon Hurtado Deedra Franklin Lorianne Taylor Brooks Fuller Candace Owens Finance Manager Candace has lived in Anderson for twenty-five years. She joined Daniel Builders in 2023 and works out of our Anderson office. Her experience is in office management, finance, and education. Aerika Paxton Sales & Project Coordinator, Direct Projects Aerika Paxton brings over 13 years of experience in the construction industry, complemented by a degree in Business Analytics from the University of Georgia. As the Sales & Project Coordinator at Daniel Builders, she plays a pivotal role in streamlining internal processes and supporting project execution from inception to completion. Aerika’s strong analytical background, combined with her in-depth industry knowledge, allows her to efficiently manage daily operations while ensuring a high level of service and accuracy. She is deeply passionate about organization and thrives on creating systems that promote clarity, efficiency, and collaboration within the team. She resides in Anderson County with her husband and three daughters on their family farm. She enjoys running their small family business within farming. You can almost always find her doing something outside. Whether she’s feeding livestock, riding horses, or simply enjoying the fresh air, her love for rural life shines through in everything she does. Her deep-rooted passion for agriculture and community continue to inspire those around her. Candace Owens Administration 2 Sean Harvey Project Manager Sean started gaining construction experience in his dad's family business at the age of thirteen. Born and raised in a small New Jersey town, he worked doing preservation, restoration, and remodeling on many historic homes until he graduated from high school. Sean went on to earn a B.A. from Rutgers University in English where he worked briefly in marketing. After a brief stint in the corporate world, Sean returned to carpentry, and soon joined Daniel Builders. Sean has over twenty years of construction experience both in the field and in construction management. Sean is married to Jess and has three daughters, Sarah, Savannah, and Selah, who bring tremendous joy to his life. Sean also enjoys reading books, writing, and ministry work. Clay Merritt Project Manager Clay demonstrated a mechanical aptitude as a child while working with his father on home and auto repairs. Through high school he studied electrical, hydraulics, and pneumatics through his career center. After high school, Clay went on to study architecture and construction engineering at Greenville Technical College while continuing to work jobs in construction. After college, he went to work with an electrical contractor and then a custom builder where his knowledge of the construction industry began to rapidly develop. Clay ran his own remodeling business for nine years. During this time, he further honed an extensive skill set and enhanced his aptitude for quality finishes, kitchen and bath remodels, and tile shower systems. Clay moved into his current role after demonstrating the ability to provide excellent craftsmanship, knowledge of all building systems, and proactive problem solving as a lead carpenter. Clay, his wife, and two kids reside in Williamston, SC. Nathan Dotson Project Manager Nathan has always loved working with his hands through the building process, so it was an easy decision when it came time to decide on a career path. After college, he entered the construction industry full-time. He has worked in residential and commercial construction since 2000, but he prefers building relationships on the residential side. Over the years, he has worked for various companies throughout the upstate, including Daniel Builders. In 2017, he started his own remodeling company and managed it for 7 years. We are happy to welcome him back to the Daniel Builders team! Jeff Johnston Project Manager Jeff’s journey into the construction field started with a decade in disaster restoration, where he developed a foundation in residential renovation, project management, client experience, and problem-solving under pressure before joining the Daniel Builders family. He believes that clear communication and trust are the cornerstones of a great building experience. Originally from Western North Carolina, Jeff and his family are now a part of the Simpsonville community. Dexter Williams Commercial Project Manager Dexter has over 39 years of project management experience in residential and commercial construction. Commercially, he’s managed projects ranging from shopping centers to medical centers to industrial facilities. Prior to his extensive work experience, Dexter studied Building Construction Technology and Architectural Engineering. Dexter resides in Anderson, South Carolina, where he has an instrumental role at Calvary Home for children, a local orphanage. Tim Cutliff Commercial Project Manager Tim has been in construction for over 30 years and commercial project management for over 10 years. His project portfolio includes small upfits to complete hotel renovations and church additions. He is married to his amazing wife, and they have four awesome children (plus 2 awesome son-in-laws). Upstate SC has been Tim's home since the 4th grade, and he loves living here and investing in the community. Tim works with the goal of keeping Christ first, believing that prioritizing Christ will allow everything else to fall into place. PM 1 PM 2 PM 5 PM 3 PM 4 PM 6 Lead Carpenter 1 Chris Earl Trade Specialist Chris grew up in the upstate. His work history includes cabinetry, metal fabrication, and construction. For the last decade, his emphasis has been on electrical. His family lives in Mauldin, South Carolina. He is is the proud parent and step parent of three amazing future heroes and the husband to a wonderful woman. Brett Eagan Project Carpenter Brett is originally from Chicago. As a kid, he loved building clubhouses and tree houses. He continued developing his carpentry skills in high school. Brett's favorite part of his job is the satisfaction of a well-crafted, completed project. He is the father of six children and husband to his wife of 18 years. Garren Alexander Lead Carpenter Garren is an Anderson, South Carolina native who discovered his gift for carpentry during his teen years. He took a proactive approach to sharpening his carpentry skill by taking classes at a career center while in high school. At the age of seventeen, Garren started building cabinets full time for Frazer Quality Woodworks in Pickens, South Carolina. Since then, carpentry has been the source of Garren’s livelihood. Dylan James Lead Carpenter Dylan joined the Daniel Builders team in June 2021. Dylan realized he had an aptitude for residential construction at age eighteen. Dylan lives in Easley, South Carolina and loves the outdoors. Chris Owens Lead Carpenter Chris has an impressive background with over 24 years of experience in multiple facets of construction. His areas of his expertise include framing, roofing, electrical, trim, sheetrock, siding, wood flooring, tile, and painting. Chris was Construction Supervisor at Calvary Children’s Home for six years. He and his wife Laurie later served as house parents for five years in the Anderson, South Carolina based orphanage that provides a safe living environment for abused or neglected children. Russ Hayes Carpenter Russ was born in Columbus, Georgia. After high school, he began working in construction with an emphasis on hardwood floor installation. For the last decade, he has worked with architectural and modular office wall systems in South Carolina, Colorado, Utah, and Florida. After moving back to the South, he joined Daniel Builders in 2023. The most important things in his life are his faith and relationship with Jesus Christ. He also enjoys the mountains and playing golf. David Hudgens Carpenter David is a native of Greenville, South Carolina. His interest in carpentry began as a child when his father taught him about woodworking. In his early years, David's experience ranged from working in a peach field to a cabinet shop. He settled into framing homes for a custom home builder in Spartanburg. In his spare time, David serves the community by helping feed the homeless. Jack Kurtz Carpenter Jack grew up in Pendleton, SC. He developed a love for carpentry through classes he took through a trade school in tenth grade. His favorite part of his work at Daniel Builders is the people - getting to know both clients and coworkers. He also enjoys seeing each project take shape. He is the proud father of four daughters. Joey Sanchez Carpenter Joey was born near Boston, Massachusetts and moved to South Carolina with his mother and brother at a very young age. Joey realized he loved construction early in life, especially the woodworking and craftsmanship aspects of the trade. Joey currently lives in Easley, South Carolina with his wife and son. He’s in the process of earning a Construction Engineering degree at Greenville Tech. Joey aspires to own a woodworking or residential construction business one day. AJ Goossens Carpenter AJ's dad worked in concrete, and his stepdad worked as an electrician, so construction has been prevalent throughout his whole life. His favorite things about working for Daniel Builders are the company values and the professionalism of the team. He also loves that the company is family-oriented. He credits his wife, Kylee, for being integral to his success. His top priorities are pleasing God and putting clients first! Chad Caton Carpenter Chad gained experience with electrical work during his time in the Coast Guard. Chad and his wife also serve as professional guides and enjoy rock climbing, rappelling, and backpacking in their free time. Patrick Strothmann Carpenter Patrick started in construction when he was a child. At the age of 5, he remembers ripping nails out of the roof of his parents’ house in New York. His father was a teacher during the school year and worked construction during the summer, where Patrick assisted with job site clean-up. Patrick followed in his father’s footsteps and taught for 14 years. In 2016, Patrick joined his father and brother to help with the family business. Patrick says, “My time with Daniel Builders has been wonderful. The team and staff are absolutely amazing to work for and with. The company’s values bring us all together, and we work as a family.” Outside of work, Patrick loves to run and spend time with his son, Keymoni. Jacob Santel Build Project Coordinator Jacob is a graduate of Anderson University. During his junior year, his interest in design, architecture, and carpentry grew. During his last semester, he volunteered twice a week with Habitat for Humanity. In his spare time he enjoys reading, playing piano, and baking. You may find him on a job site with his homemade banana bread! Andy Lamb Commercial Superintendent Andy started working in construction as a summer job during his teenage years. His path to Daniel Builders was a 10-year journey, and he is grateful to be part of "such a God-centered and caring company." He is a loving husband and father to his wife, Rebecca, and six children. Colossians 3:23 is paramount in Andy's approach to work. He credits his desire to please the Lord as the source of his work ethic and determination. He wants clients to know their desires and needs are very important to him! BUILDING TRUST BLOG MUDROOM MASTERPIECE Make the mudroom spectacular. < Back Will Cord 2020-07-23 Recently Daniel Builders was approached by an editor/writer from Houzz.com seeking to interview our Design team about this recent mudroom renovation. Being honored, we agreed and plan to highlight the interview on our social media platforms once published. The request from Houzz raises a question though. Why give attention to mudrooms? Short answer: Houzz realizes Mudrooms are kind of a big deal these days. Maybe not as popular as Kitchen/Bath renovations, but that could be changing. We’re seeing clients take a very serious and intentional approach to designing this area of their home. Below is another example. Five facets factoring into a fabulous mudroom are: Functionality - the mudroom is where work gets done and muddy kids with soccer cleats come. During design think durable with easy accessibility to cabinetry, countertops, coat racks, and shoe storage. Imagine a space to handle mounds of laundry and where yard work warriors transition back indoors. Simplicity - don’t overcomplicate it. Maintaining a minimalistic mindset during Design will serve you well. The layout essentially comes down to four basic features: cleaning (sink/washer/dryer), folding (countertops), storage (cabinetry), and space to hang coats/clothes. Cabinetry - aka more storage. Face it storing stuff is a major part of home life these days. Additional cabinetry is a great way to combat the clutter. And the mudroom is a way better option than other rooms meant for relaxing or entertaining. Countertops - to sort/fold/stack laundry and temporarily place random items you carry into your home. Countertop installation can be modified by height, depth, and surface to maximize your every move. Customized - yes customizing to your taste is important. With the right Design you can achieve a “delighted-to-be-here” feeling the moment you walk in. Let your style shine when selecting paint, flooring, cabinetry, and countertop surfaces. New projects enhance your home's functionality, appearance, and value. When you think about making changes to your home, you may think of renovate or remodel. These terms are often used interchangeably but they refer to two types of projects with distinct goals and scopes. Today, we will explain the differences between a home renovation and a home remodel. This will help you understand which option will work best for your needs. Before we explore the differences, let's define both renovate and remodel and explore the differences of renovation vs restoration. Renovation is when we update your space without making large-scale changes to your home. It might involve improvements to existing features, fixtures, and finishes in your home. The goal is to enhance your home's appearance, functionality, or both. Common renovations include new paint or flooring, an upgrade to appliances, or adding new fixtures. Remodeling, on the other hand, involves changing the structure, layout, or purpose of your space. Remodeling may include big changes to your existing structure. You might be adding or tearing down walls, rearranging rooms, or even increasing your square footage. The purpose of a remodel is to transform the space to suit your family better or to accommodate new needs. When deciding between a home renovation and a house remodel, several factors should be considered: Remodeling and renovation cost - Renovations generally tend to be more cost-effective compared to full-scale remodels. Renovations are more cosmetic updates and minor repairs, which are less expensive than bigger changes. Remodels often require architectural planning, permits, and construction work, resulting in higher costs. Scope and Timeframe - Renovations tend to be smaller in scale, so they can be finished faster than a remodel. Over that time, we’ve identified the single most important element to a successful renovation is establishing trust. Clear Expectations - As you can imagine guesswork and unwanted surprises create big problems during a renovation. To be clear (notice how I’m clarifying expectations here) no process eliminates every surprise. Still, you can and should always establish clear expectations in regards to price, timeline, scope, communication, and warranty before moving into construction. Here are five reasons to hire a contractor committed to clarifying expectations: Price is Firm - A renovation with a fluctuating price can feel like a scary roller coaster. Clear price expectations require legwork from your contractor, and those willing to do this legwork are typically worth your business. Agreeing to a fixed price is the best way to avoid being trapped in a renovation with unknown, or escalating expenses. Time is Honored - Waiting is hard enough, but when you’re uncertain about how long, or even why, it can be excruciating. Good contractors outline schedules and communicate delays so you can avoid this anxiety. Don’t misunderstand. Waiting will be required. Renovations don’t happen as fast as you see on HGTV. However, clear time expectations from the start makes your wait much easier. Value is Defined - Not all contractors are created equal. Some leave you wondering, “Why did I pay so much (or so little) for my renovation?” Answer: Value was never established or documented. In other words, be certain your contractor knows what level of quality and service you expect before any agreement is reached. Trust is Built - Trust is so important because few things in life go exactly as planned. A good contractor communicates and addresses his mistakes when they happen. Problems only grow larger when ignored. Asking for references and reading reviews help shape an accurate expectation of a contractor’s credibility. Service is Ongoing - Unfortunately, some problems become evident after a project is complete. This is especially difficult when a contractor is unwilling to return. Understanding the warranty must happen before a project ever starts. Ask your contractor how warranty related issues are handled. Again, check his track record by reading reviews and contacting references. Knowing your contractor stands behind his work brings valuable peace of mind. BUILDING TRUST BLOG RENOVATE YOUR PURCHASE Transform any home despite a low housing inventory. < Back Will Cord 2022-05-31 When housing inventory is low you still have an option to transform any home with a Guide Design Build renovation. Housing Inventory in our area (Upstate of South Carolina) is limited and disappears quick. Homes sell almost as soon as they hit the market, sometimes within hours of being listed. People are moving here in droves and they’re coming from all over the country! Finding and buying a home in this area requires quick decision making. Finding that “perfect” home is not likely in these market conditions. Fortunately, you can renovate almost any home into a space you’ll love. Although there are a few basic questions to answer before purchasing a home you’re planning to immediately renovate. Will renovation work price me out of the neighborhood? Just about every home can be renovated (some should be torn down and built from scratch), but just because you can renovate doesn’t mean you always should. Investing too much in a home might be a really bad financial decision. For example, purchasing a $350K home and then spending $300K in renovation work is bad idea when homes in the neighborhood are valued under $400K. Recouping that difference is highly unlikely. Especially if you plan to make another move within 5 years. However, we realize more than financial factors go into a decision to renovate. Will the home’s basic layout stay intact? Moving a kitchen to another part of the home is far more expensive than renovating a kitchen in its current location. Walls can be moved, and rooms enhanced, but completely scraping the general layout (especially as it pertains to plumbing) will drive up cost. Far better to purchase a home where changing the basic layout isn’t necessary. How old is the home? Older homes may be built to stand the test of time, but eventually the 2ndLaw of Thermodynamics and new building codes catch up. Figure out what type of toll time has taken on a home before purchasing it. Home inspectors can help you pinpoint what repair work is need, and sometimes a homeowner may correct before closing. Who was the builder? Every builder has a reputation, and usually with good reason. It’s hard to hide poor quality, at least for long. Knowing who built the home is a good point of reference when trying to anticipate issues that might arise. Are you considering an addition? You may want to add on to a home your purchasing, but to automatically assume you can, would be a mistake. You’ll need a plat to determine setbacks and whether adding on is even possible. Plus, septic system codes impact whether an addition is feasible. Is the electrical system in good condition? It’s a major expense if it isn’t, and wiring is hidden so this expense doesn’t address any aesthetic concerns you have. Qualified electricians are a great resource! Is ceiling height a pain point? Changing a ceiling height isn’t easy or cheap. Transforming an 8 foot ceiling to a 12 foot ceiling is doable (again, almost everything is doable when renovating a home) but not necessarily advisable. Maintaining the current ceiling height will allow you to stretch your renovation budget further. So, you can turn your focus to renovating other aspects of the home. To summarize, buying home is a big decision and even bigger when you plan to renovate as soon as you purchase. Answering the questions above will ensure your vision for renovating is on the right track. Even an unlimited budget requires wise decision making. The Building Trust Blog interviews mortgage lender James Anderson on the topic of soaring home prices. As a homeowner this is great news, but not-so-good-news if you’re trying to purchase (much less find) your dream home. Homes are disappearing from the market at sonic speed, or at least faster than many would-be home buyers can even compose an offer. The good news is you have options and equity to Design-Build renovate your current home into a dream home. Recently, the Building Trust Blog (BTB) reached out to respected mortgage lender, James Anderson (JA) to get his take on what's happening. BTB: How much longer can we expect to see these “historically low" rates? JA: There is not a crystal ball in my office, but it is clear they won’t last forever. Inflation will eventually catch up to the bond markets, and then mortgage rates will follow. BTB: How frequently do rates change? Are you seeing significant volatility day to day? JA: Mortgage rates can change at any time. Until a loan is locked, there is no guarantee. Many times, they can move up or down several times during the day. Some days are fairly quiet, and we can see stable rates for a week or more, but then it can change on a dime. Typically rates creep DOWN and shoot UP very quickly. BTB: With home values on the rise, would you recommend starting a renovation now? JA: If you like your location/neighborhood but want some better options and functions in the dwelling- renovation is a great option. Yes, now is a great time to add value to your property. BTB: When it comes to investing in your home, which is the better option a Renovation Loan or Cash Out Refinance? Why? JA: Both are great options depending on each individual case. The main reason for the renovation loan is to tap into the future equity once the project is complete. The budget and scope of work will also drive the decision for which financial path. BTB: What makes a mortgage lender elite? Truly beneficial to the client? JA: Many banks “say” they offer construction and renovation products, but the execution of the product and program is severely lacking. Disclaimer: What you're about to read has nothing to do with renovations. Still, if an award was given for our “Most Significant” blog post, this one would win by far. I’m sure you've our society has become increasingly panic-stricken. The news networks rarely tell us anything calming or good, and social media thrives on deception. All this bad news begs the question: Is good news out there? The answer is yes. Good still happens in our American culture. And it's worth finding. You need to know where to look though, or face being swept away by a tidal wave of negativity. So where is the good news? At Daniel Builders we recognize truly good news starts with God. He is doing good right now in our community, even as much of it goes largely unrecognized. The few recognizing this goodness are often at “rock bottom”. They have exhausted just about every option, but one -The Haven of Rest. The Haven specializes in helping people at rock bottom, and they frequently see God demonstrate amazing goodness. Recently, I sat down with Stu Butler, executive director of the Haven of Rest in Anderson. What he said is worth sharing. Will: Who comes to the Haven of Rest for help? Stu: Men and women struggling with a life dominating problem. Let me read you our Mission statement. The Haven of Rest exists to see those with life dominating problems rescued, restored and released while experiencing the love of the Lord Jesus Christ as commanded in the Great Commission of Matt 28:18-20. Will: What does getting help look like for someone struggling with a live dominating problem? Stu: We don’t advertise. We don’t have to advertise. Most people end up here by word of mouth. We have five pillars. Food. Shelter. Clothing. Christian Love. Biblical Guidance. If a person’s stomach is inside out from hunger, they can’t really listen very well. Or if someone is physically exhausted and they just need to lay down a while we can meet that need. So, we start by meeting basic needs, but that’s not where we stop. Will: What motivates you? Stu: The love of Christ, what He has done for me and what I see Him doing in other people’s lives. We see God doing miracles here every day and that is not only motivational but inspirational as well. I am motivated to leave things better than I found them. That is something that my dad taught me and it has stuck with me all these years. He did that and his legacy still lives on even though he passed away two years ago at age 92. I want to follow in my Father’s footsteps – both my earthly father and my heavenly Father. I want to leave a legacy that is larger than me and will last longer than me. Will: Have you seen an increase or decrease in desperate, “rock bottom” people? Stu: Unfortunately, we have seen an increase. Material poverty has been around for a long time but we also see spiritual poverty and relational poverty. Technology has connected us but also disconnected us and that creates relational poverty. So, we are ministering to men and women dealing with that as well. Interestingly in our low-tech ministry centers our men and women are forced to talk and to relate to one another. That can be a slow process at first, but they can learn to relate to their fellow sojourners and that is a great thing. If they can learn to relate to and love their fellow man who they have seen it helps them to see God who they have not seen. Will: How will the Haven continue seeing God at work? Stu: We stand on the truth and the basics, as long as we do that we will grow and see God at work. As we are faithful to God, He is faithful to us and gives us fruit for our labors. This is a faith ministry and what we have found is that God honors faith because faith honors God. We are so thankful for the support of the community, support which we depend on because we do not receive government funding for our programs. May God grant us all an ability to recognize His good news.
