In honor of National Smart Home Day, we wanted to highlight some of their capabilities! BUILDING TRUST BLOG SMART HOME SOLUTIONS A recent collaboration introduced us to these tech solutions from Fusion Audio + Video! Back to Blog 2024-11-03 We’ve been grateful to partner with Fusion Audio + Video during a recent remodel in Simpsonville, SC. Last week, we took our team on a tour of their downtown Greenville showroom. In honor of National Smart Home Day, we wanted to highlight some of their capabilities! Theater Rooms The choice between a projector and TV is largely dependent upon the amount of ambient light in the room. In 2024, a quality projector varies in price from $1,295-$60K, a 120 inch TV screen from $4K-$130K, and a 98 inch TV from $6K - $7K. The difference is driven by whether you are doing a projector and screen or a television. Picture quality, brightness, indoor vs outdoor, and motion handling also drive the wide variance in cost. Movie screens are available in varying sizes and aspect ratios based on the intended end use. Fusion has a 3D design service that helps clients visualize the room using VR goggles prior to build. Communication between the client, AV team, and builder is imperative during theater room builds. Floating gasket floors, decoupled walls, and decoupled ceilings can help achieve better sound isolation. Decorative pilasters, recesses, and risers can camouflage acoustic panels and wiring, but planning needs to be done upfront. Sports Simulator How it works: It’s similar to a video game with two tracks built into the subfloor. The tracks read the speed, trajectory, and spin of the ball as it passes them and travels toward the screen. Listening Rooms A listening room contains speakers, amplifiers, and custom acoustic panels to reduce the echo and increase sound clarity. Acoustic wall treatments can be color-matched to any paint color. If you want your room to sound like Abbey Road Studios, Fusion can help! TV Add-Ons Custom casings can conceal sound bars. A custom frame can camouflage the TV as a piece of artwork. Remotes can be programmed to lower the TV to eye level or swivel to the left or right. TVs can also be weatherized for outdoor living areas. Lutron Lighting Control & Ketra Fixtures How it works: a single hot wire provides power to different zones of light. A low-voltage control wire communicates commands to individual fixtures within each zone. Each zone can be customized to control multiple lights with a single multi-button dimmer. This system is a great way to consolidate the number of light switches in a room, which is especially helpful when converting a traditional floor plan to an open-concept layout with fewer walls. Retrofit kits are available for remodels and renovations. Lighting can be automated to dim when a movie begins to play in your theater room. It can also be automated to track daylight based on your geographic location and turn off and on accordingly. You can also control the color temperature, which is great for lighting artwork. Under-counter lighting and under-toe kick lighting are also available. V oice Control How it works: Josh.ai is a completely closed, privatized system that was originally designed for executives in Silicon valley who valued privacy. It understands multiple commands simultaneously, which Alexa, Google, and Siri cannot do. Ex: Josh obeys when you say, “Hey Josh, watch ESPN, open the shades, dim the lights to 70%, and set the temperature to 68 degrees.” You can also program multiple actions (or scenes) to occur via a short sentence. “Hey Josh Goodnight” can turn off the lights, turn off the TV, close the shades, and turn on the security system. Josh operates through wireless wall sensors. Since it operates through wifi, it can be retrofitted for remodels and renovations. If you don’t want it to listen in a particular room, activate the mute switch on the sensor. If you wish to operate Josh discreetly during a party or gathering, you can use the app or text from your phone. If the name Josh doesn’t work for your family, there are several other names to choose from. These are just a few of the many exciting smart home options available in 2024! Pro tip: If you want to implement smart home technology, budget for it at the beginning of your renovation project. Demo must planned in tandem with the smart tech. Smart tech is often the last consideration during a renovation project, and you don’t want to get to the end of your project, discover an amazing smart home feature, and have to rip out walls again to implement it! Back to Blog 2025-04-25 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8J8jz6vpaOY On this month’s Ready, Set, Renovate! podcast, get ready for a triple feature! Springtime is here, so naturally, we’re discussing April showers and H2O, specifically steam showers and leak detection solutions. You won't want to miss this "water-full" episode! Our first conversation is with Moen rep Jennifer Smith. She discusses how Moen Flo minimizes water damage. Running water is a great convenience, but it can cause catastrophic damage, headaches, and heartache. A small, undetected leak can compound over time, wreaking havoc on framing, interior finishes, and home safety. Jennifer delves into the emerging technology behind Moen Flo and how a small leak can be detected before it becomes a big problem. After talking plumbing protection, we discuss another emerging technology: steam showers! Installing a steam shower is one way to get more from your water. Chasidee Knapke of Gateway Supply joins us to share about the health benefits, maintenance, and costs associated with steam showers. You’ll quickly see why they’re “saturating” the home improvement market. Finally, Brandon Hurtado, Daniel Builders Design Project Manager, explains how to take practical steps toward incorporating a steam shower into your next bathroom remodel. - CONCRETE THINKING - Building Trust Renovation Blog - South Carolina - Daniel Builders
Concrete floors are an intriguing option when it comes for a custom renovation. BUILDING TRUST BLOG CONCRETE THINKING Concrete floors are an intriguing option when it comes for a custom renovation. Back to Blog 2021-08-25 Concrete floors are an intriguing option when it comes for a custom renovation. Despite being known as industrial flooring, concrete is gaining traction (yes that's a pun, couldn’t resist) in the residential realm. Here are 3 intriguing concrete flooring options for your home. Polished Concrete - First, let’s clarify what constitutes polished concrete. The starting point, as you would imagine, is a concrete slab. Through systematic grinding and polishing the slab is transformed into a lovely surface. That’s an oversimplified explanation, but polished concrete is distinct from a sealed slab. Sealed slabs require much less prep before applying an acrylic sealer. Unfortunately, sealed slabs don’t reach the same level of beauty and uniqueness as polished concrete. Getting there requires a combination of planetary grinders, diamond abrasives and chemicals such as densifiers and stain protector, which are used to progressively refine and polish the surface. That process continues until the right level of smoothness and gloss is reached. This form of flooring is surprisingly slip resistant - even when wet. For those wanting additional color options, polished concrete can be dyed or inlayed with an artistic design. As you can see, residential polished concrete options are customizable and limitless. Broadcast Resins Floors - Broadcast resin floors are a great combination of function, protection and aesthetics. After preparing the concrete substrate with diamond grinding or shot blasting (no acid etching here!), a resinous primer is applied, and the selected media is broadcasted into the wet primer. Wood chips are the selected media in this photo. Once the resin has cured, which only takes 4-8 hours, the excess media is removed, and a resinous grout coat is installed to cover the broadcasted material. Because these flooring systems have additional, non-resinous materials integrated into them, they are much thicker than a traditional “neat” resinous flooring system. This makes the floor more durable and impact resistant while also being slip and chemical resistant. Makes a really nice garage floor! Metallic Resinous Floors - Metallic resinous floors start with clear resins, then colored metallic powdered pigments are added to create an iridescent effect. This surface appears to have a unique depth and texture even though it's completely smooth and level. Depending on the desired effect, single or multiple colors can be added. The gloss level of the protective topcoat can be selected - matte, semigloss or gloss. Because of the artistic nature of the application, no two metallic floors are alike. Each is an original masterpiece. Special thanks to Derek Zearley of Zefco for providing insights and info for this blog. - GOING AIRBORNE - Building Trust Renovation Blog - South Carolina - Daniel Builders
Stop the spread of airborne diseases. BUILDING TRUST BLOG GOING AIRBORNE Stop the spread of airborne diseases. Back to Blog 2021-05-03 Health and wellbeing have been at the forefront of everyone’s mind over the past year, or more specifically avoiding COVID has been. Precautionary steps taken by Daniel Builders to minimize the spread of disease spread by airborne transmission. At Daniel Builders we aren’t health professionals, but here are 6 common sense ways to protect your respiratory health during a renovation. Dust & Particle Containment - Once you begin tearing down walls and ripping up floors the air inside your home becomes filled with all types of particles. Containing these particles is accomplished by putting up temporary barriers such as Zip Walls . Air Purification Equipment - Where will these airborne particles ultimately go? This is where having the right equipment such as BuildClean is important. A home normally has approximately 100K particles (larger than .5 micrometer) per cubic square foot of air. Whereas a home under construction has anywhere between 500K - 1M particles. HVAC - Change HVAC filters throughout the project and then once it’s complete. Air Out Building Materials - Before installing materials with high VOC (volatile organic compounds) levels such as carpets make sure they have time to first “air out” in a well-ventilated area. And if possible, keep windows open during installation. This reduces the risk of VOC when levels at they’re at their highest. Keep Paint Sealed - Be sure to keep paint cans and paint thinners sealed when not in use. Good Ventilation - The goal is to get clean/fresh air into your lungs. This is only possible if fresh air is circulating throughout your home. You're probably aware of the huge push to make buildings as energy efficient as possible. Which is great as long as air quality isn’t sacrificed. Learn how to get the good air inside . A clean, organized and safe work environment is one advantage to choosing Daniel Builders for your renovation (see all Six Advantages here ). Protecting the respiratory health of our clients is just another example of how we're committed to Building Trust. Are you contemplating a major home renovation? - 2022 Preservation Honor Award Winner - South Carolina - Daniel Builders
Daniel Builders recognized with a state honor by Preservation South Carolina for an historic renovation of a commercial building in downtown Anderson SC. 2022 2022 PRESERVATION HONOR AWARD WINNER HISTORIC BRIDAL BOUTIQUE Daniel Builders was named 2022 Preservation Honor Award Winner for their "East Benson Street" commercial renovation. A South Carolina Preservation Honor Award celebrates successful and exemplary historic preservation projects around the Palmetto State. Any individual, organization, government agency, or business involved in the preservation of historic buildings, structures, or sites (including archaeological sites, cemeteries, and landscapes) in the state are eligible to receive an Honor Award for a historic preservation project. "THIS BUILDING IS SO FULL OF HISTORY. WE WERE HONORED TO BE TASKED WITH RESTORING ITS ORIGINAL BEAUTY AND CHARM." - BOB CORD, DANIEL BUILDERS In the Fall of 2020, Daniel Builders assisted Danny Walker, a local businessman, with the rehabilitation of 106 East Benson Street, a commercial building on Anderson’s public square. Anderson’s downtown is primarily comprised of late 19th century brick commercial buildings, many of which have undergone unsympathetic renovations which have altered or destroyed their architectural integrity. This building was one of the most altered, the late Victorian ornamentation had been completely removed from the building and the entire façade, including the windows, was covered in grey painted stucco. The interior had also been obscured by vinyl floors and dropped ceilings hiding the original wood floors and beadboard ceilings. The building had sat vacant for years as an overlooked gap in the city’s historic streetscape, and while this rehabilitation could have retained the poorly planned changes the owner inherited, he decided to do more and take the building back to its former appearance. Historic images of the block allowed the team including Preservation South and Daniel Builders to identify the building’s remaining original features as well as other facades in the vicinity that retain those elements for replication as part of a tax credit rehabilitation. On the interior, additions were removed and the original floors were refinished, the plaster walls were repaired and the beadboard ceilings were patched and painted. The largest changes took place on the exterior, the later stucco façade was removed exposing the original brick and former window openings. The missing tin window hoods and parapet cornice were measured from other surviving examples and recreated using modern materials. The storefront was recreated based on historic images and the entire building was repainted in a more appropriate scheme that incorporated one of the tenant’s colors. The building now houses Katharine Marie Bridal on the first floor and a co-working space on the second. - YEAR IN REVIEWS - Building Trust Renovation Blog - South Carolina - Daniel Builders
Positive reviews from our happy Guide Design Build custom renovation clients. BUILDING TRUST BLOG YEAR IN REVIEWS Positive reviews from our happy custom renovation clients. Back to Blog 2018-12-28 Positive reviews from our happy Guide Design Build custom renovation clients. Some of our best lessons from 2018 came in the form of customer feedback, or reviews. Listening when our customers speak has been essential to our business. After all, Daniel Builders is in the business of making customers really, really happy with their homes. They, like any good boss, let us know if we’re succeeding or not. Hard to believe we’re in the final hours of 2018. What was 2018 like for you? Reviewing a year is like a football coach reviewing game footage. You’re wiser, savvier for doing it. Forgetting 365 days would be a colossal waste. Customer reviews serve another purpose. They give future customers a good idea of what to expect. Some people write reviews with ill-intent, trying to inflict unwarranted embarrassment, or harm. These folks are typically easy to spot though. Most reviews are written by people who care. They realize their feedback (both positive and negative) can be extremely helpful. Thank you to every customer who shared their honest feedback in 2018. So, without further delay, here’s a sampling of what they had to say. We appreciate the professionalism and the communication from all of you at Daniel Builders. While it’s never fun to have folks in your house for long stretches, you made it as painless as possible. You were easy to work with and took care of all our questions and concerns in a timely manner. You will certainly be considered for any future projects we may have. - Katherine L. I have been impressed with Daniel Builders from my first phone call, to the design team, our Project Manager and Carpenters and would use ya'll again for future building projects.... without hesitation. - Kathy S. We have been nothing but pleased with your company from beginning to end with both our projects. You run a top-notch company and I’m sure we will have more projects in the future. - Ali R. I would highly recommend Daniel Builders. They have been honest, on time, and high quality of work. - Andy G. I appreciate Daniel Builders and everything that you represent. I look forward to working with you again in the future. Let me know if I can ever provide references for you. -Greg A. They did a great job helping us make a 1/2 bath/laundry room into a full, accessible bathroom. The guys were friendly, knowledgeable, on time, communicative, and innovative in the design to make the most of the allotted space. We are extremely pleased with the entire experience. - Charles C. I'm not sure I have ever come across another contractor that I have worked with I would give 5-stars to, but Daniel Builders deserves everyone. I'd probably do it just because they actually show up when they say they are going to - a rarity I've found these days - on time, every time. But they aren't just punctual in their arrival, they have completed every job for us on time and beautifully! We've asked them to remodel two bathrooms, complete odd jobs to help close a sale of a house and build a beautiful fence. We had a minor, but not unusual, problem with work completed and when we called almost 6 months later, they came out the next week and fixed it without charge. I couldn't believe the responsiveness. Most contractors would take weeks to call you back if they ever did. Our family has used them as well and had the same great experience. We've already chosen them to help us complete our newest project - a kitchen remodel. We considered briefly to do it ourselves as we've done many times before, but the comfort knowing the job will be done exactly as we imagine, on time and by great people - that aren't us - made the decision for us. -Nicole C. Just want to thank you for another great job. So sorry we did not know about you in the past. Certainly, it would have saved us some do-overs. It was a pleasure to have you in our home. Everyone we have had contact with is so easy to work with and did an absolutely wonder job. Thank you for putting as much effort into a small job (like our laundry room floor) as you did when we renovated the front of the house. Another thing that is so important: Communication. You kept us informed! When the job would start, times people would be here. Such nice and professional people that work for you. Too bad more companies do not have your work ethic. -Bill J. We worked for some exceptional people in 2018. We’re grateful for each one, and the feedback they share. Happy and prosperous 2019! Are you contemplating a major home renovation?
