Back to Blog 2021-05-03 Health and wellbeing have been at the forefront of everyone’s mind over the past year, or more specifically avoiding COVID has been. Precautionary steps taken by Daniel Builders to minimize the spread of disease spread by airborne transmission. At Daniel Builders we aren’t health professionals, but here are 6 common sense ways to protect your respiratory health during a renovation. Dust & Particle Containment - Once you begin tearing down walls and ripping up floors the air inside your home becomes filled with all types of particles. Containing these particles is accomplished by putting up temporary barriers such as Zip Walls . Air Purification Equipment - Where will these airborne particles ultimately go? This is where having the right equipment such as BuildClean is important. A home normally has approximately 100K particles (larger than .5 micrometer) per cubic square foot of air. Whereas a home under construction has anywhere between 500K - 1M particles. HVAC - Change HVAC filters throughout the project and then once it’s complete. Air Out Building Materials - Before installing materials with high VOC (volatile organic compounds) levels such as carpets make sure they have time to first “air out” in a well-ventilated area. And if possible, keep windows open during installation. This reduces the risk of VOC when levels at they’re at their highest. Keep Paint Sealed - Be sure to keep paint cans and paint thinners sealed when not in use. Good Ventilation - The goal is to get clean/fresh air into your lungs. This is only possible if fresh air is circulating throughout your home. You're probably aware of the huge push to make buildings as energy efficient as possible. Where do I begin? Stay Safe - first & foremost, keep yourself out of harm’s way. Climbing on your roof with a chainsaw is highly inadvisable. Damage to your home is far better than personal injury or death. Your safety is the priority. Damaged homes and trees present many ongoing safety concerns. Please be aware that many potential hazards remain. Additional trees and branches on your property may be compromised and fall even after the storm subsides. Proper chainsaw usage is essential. Physical injury is a risk to homeowners who underestimate these dangers. Rely on experienced professionals to help prevent injury and additional damage to your home. Take photos of the damage. Contact Your Insurance Company - You’ve likely communicated with your insurance company already. If not, start there. BUILDING TRUST BLOG 2025 PORTFOLIO: PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE PAST YEAR As 2025 draws to a close, let's recap a few memories and milestones! Back to Blog 2026-01-02 What a year! We’re grateful for these 2025 memories and milestones! This year, we welcomed Aerika to our administrative staff and Brooks to our Design team. We welcomed AJ, Chad, Ethan, Jacob, Jeff, Junior, Jordan, and Whitney to the Build team. Andy joined our Commercial Division as Superintendent, and Sam assumed the role of Build Director. We’re so grateful for each person on our team and God’s continued blessing of company growth! The largest project we completed this year was a walk-out basement remodel and addition in Clemson. The basement mother-in-law suite features a kitchen, living room, dining room, fireplace, two bedrooms, bathroom, and walk-in closet. The addition includes two children’s rooms and a bathroom. Our second-largest project was a multi-room remodel in Anderson. We enclosed a portion of the porch to expand the kitchen, pantry, and dining area to better equip the home for entertaining. The remodel also included a staircase, laundry area, master bathroom, master closet, and guest bathrooms. To learn more about this project, check out the “Home for the Holidays” tour and client interview on our blog! Other projects completed in 2025 include additions, bathrooms, and kitchens. This two-story screened porch addition in Anderson includes a gorgeous tongue-and-groove pine ceiling, a slanted wall to capture the backyard view, a storage area for lawn maintenance equipment, and a hallway that connects the outdoor space to the main house. This kitchen in Simpsonville features quartz countertops, maple full-access cabinets, appliance garages, and a custom wine rack to keep everything beautifully organized: This master bathroom in Belton features a freestanding tub, a curbless shower, LED mirrors to prevent fogging, and statement tile. For a client in Anderson, we converted unused attic space into a guest bathroom and installed a luxurious steam shower in the master bathroom. For more information about steam showers, check out the “April Showers” episode on our blog! Our commercial division continued to expand through office upfits in Anderson and Greenville. We partnered with Zion Architects to restore the historic Pelzer Community Center, a project that will continue in 2026. Our renovation in coordination with Buttercup Design was featured alongside 2 other projects, which Houzz refers to as “laundry rooms”. Technically, there's a difference between mudrooms and laundry rooms. More important "Mudroom" sounds so much cooler. After Houzz published the story, someone emailed asking if we would share our secret. How did we create extra space behind the washer/dryer? While we’re unwilling to share all secrets, this one we’ll entrust to you. You’ll likely find it interesting. Here it is: It’s called the Dryerbox . And this video shows how Dryerbox maximizes space by allowing the vent exhaust to recess into a wall cavity. As you see there are a variety of sizes and orientations that guide that hot, damp air through the floor or ceiling. Dryerbox is perfect for almost any washer/dryer scenario.
